yes, time really is compressing. Did you know that in the UK we weren't really taught about company towns? (we had some good ones like bourneville here, not the horror stories in the US). I only learnt about it in the last year when I read Parable of the Sower.
In the US I was never taught about almost anywhere we're exploring in American Dreaming. And to be fair I never really learned about much of even reading American Politics at Oxford. Part of the work I'm doing for myself is reconstructing a more accurate history of the past 50 years so that I have a better framework to assess what we need to leave behind and what we need to reach back to reclaim, and we assess a path forward.
